Course To Help Medical Coders Use New System

Wayne Community College Continuing Education Services will offer a course to prepare medical coders for new coding and reporting guidelines.

The “ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Coding” class will provide information to help healthcare professionals, educators, and students move to the new version of the classification system used for diagnoses and reason for visits in U.S. health care settings. Topics covered in the class include code structure, guidelines, and chapter-specific coding.

The compliance date to transition to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) code sets from ICD-9-CM, volumes 1 and 2 is Oct. 1.

The course will be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. on July 20, 22, 27 and 29 in Room 106 of the Spruce Building on the college’s main campus in Goldsboro.

Cost for the course is $70. Students may register and pay in advance at the Continuing Education Division’s Customer Service Desk in the Walnut Building (east entrance).

ICD-10-CM Coding Manuals are sold in the college bookstore.
