Free Business Essentials Seminar

The Wayne Business and Industry Center will offer the free seminar “Business Essentials,” 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July14, at the Wayne County Public Library on Ash Street in Goldsboro.

This seminar, led by the N.C. Department of Revenue (NCDOR), will cover the basics of tax compliance ranging from registering a business to withholding from employees, and sales and use tax requirements. Information will be provided on a program for businesses that have fallen behind on sales and use, withholding, and other trust taxes.

Wayne Community College Continuing Education Services will offer a class this summer to familiarize students with a variety of public safety careers.

The 15-day “Pathways to Careers in EMS/Fire/Law Enforcement” course introduces the basics of the processes, procedures, and work habits used in emergency medical services (EMS), fire fighting, and law enforcement. Through training, tours, and practice interviews, students will gain a general understanding of job requirements and career opportunities in the public safety field.

The course also covers soft skills needed in the workplace including communication capabilities, organizational strategies, and stress management techniques.

Students will have the opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate and receive training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

An orientation and registration session for the course will be held 9-10 a.m. on July 9 in Room 161 of the Wayne Learning Center (main building) on the college’s campus in Goldsboro. Classes will run 8 a.m.-noon, July 13-Aug. 5.

The Wayne Business and Industry Center will offer the free seminar “Boots to Business” 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8, in Room 104 of the Walnut Building on Wayne Community College’s main campus in Goldsboro.

This seminar provides information on the variety of programs and services the U.S. Small Business Administration and its partners provide to support veterans and military personnel seeking to become entrepreneurs. It is open only to active duty, dependents, and veterans of the U.S. military.

The Wayne Business and Industry Center will offer the free seminar “Understanding Credit and Accessing Capital,” 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, at the Wayne County Public Library on Ash Street in Goldsboro.

The seminar designed for small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs will review the six basic principles many lenders use to make credit decisions, provide an overview of the resources available in North Carolina for small businesses, and cover the Rural Center’s Microenterprise Loan Program.
