Leave Goldsboro behind and enjoy “Christmas in New York!” at Wayne Community College’s Dec. 4 Fine Arts Festival.

The festival will begin with an art exhibition that opens at 6 p.m. in the Wayne Learning Center Atrium. Pieces in various media created in the fall semester by students who have an interest in studio art will be featured.

“The works represent our students’ achievements obtained through their rigorous course of study,” said Art Instructor Angie Waller. “Mentored by myself as well as student leaders in each class, these artists demonstrate their command of artistic techniques, critical thinking, communication skills, as well as professional exhibition practices.”

A choral concert will start at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium in the Wayne Learning Center. There will be a diverse mixture of music ranging from Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” to “We Need a Little Christmas” from the Broadway musical “Mame.”

“WCC choral students have been working all semester to prepare for the concert,” said Music Instructor Brad Collier. “Many students are performing solos while others have been creating choreography for several of the musical numbers. Audience members will be treated to the talented WCC chorus singing and dancing through the aisles and on stage!”

The festival is free and open to the public.
