The Goldsboro Rotary Club will present an opportunity for the community to honor its heroes in a beautiful public setting.

In partnership with Wayne Community College, the Goldsboro Rotarians will bring their inaugural Field of Honor® flag display to the heart of eastern North Carolina. The project, designated “A Tribute to Service Above Self,” will bring hundreds of United States flags to the front lawn of the college to honor those who by their lives honor the flag.

Flags in the display may be dedicated to show support for and honor active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and neighbors in a tangible and visible way.

Flags may be sponsored for $40. Each sponsored flag will be identified by a commemorative tag bearing the name of the designated hero or loved one. After the event, the flag, its tag, and a commemorative coin will be presented to the sponsor as a memento.

Proceeds of the event will support charitable programs of Rotary International and the club.

“The Goldsboro Field of Honor® display is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships, and the efforts of dedicated volunteers,” explained Sherry Archibald, a spokesperson for the club. “Please show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation.”

“This is an experience hard to describe, but not to be forgotten,” Archibald said. “We invite all to visit the Goldsboro Field of Honor® display and walk with us among the posted flags.” The display will be open to the public without charge.

The opening ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 and live streamed via Facebook @wayneccnc. Flags will remain on the field through the closing ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Flags are now available for purchase in honor or in memory of someone whose life honors or has honored the flag. Event sponsorship opportunities are also available. Details about both can be found at www.goldsbororotary.org/fieldofhonor.
