Information sessions for Wayne Community College’s summer nurse aide, phlebotomy, and Spanish medical interpreter classes will be held in March.
Anyone interested in enrolling in a Spanish Medical Interpreter, Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, or Phlebotomy Technician course in the Summer 2020 semester must attend an information session about the registration process for that program.
The Spanish Medical Interpreter sessions are have been moved to June.
The sessions for Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, and Phlebotomy Technician are set for 1:30-2:30 p.m. on March 9 and March 16, and 5:30-7 p.m. on March 10 and March 17.
All sessions will be held in Room 101 of the Walnut Building on the college’s main campus in Goldsboro.
The sessions are free and do not require pre-registration.
Attendees must stay for the entire session in order to obtain registration paperwork. Registration will be held in late April.
Courses are offered at a variety of times during the day and in both traditional and hybrid (partially online) instructional methods. Specific schedules for each course will be announced at the information session. The summer term begins mid-May.
The Spanish Medical Interpreter program prepares students who are fluent in English and Spanish to work as Spanish Medical Interpreters. It includes a mix of medical terminology, interpreter skills and training, lab practice and clinical site practice.
Nurse Aide I introduces basic nursing assistant skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents, or clients in a health care setting. It prepares students for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination necessary for certification and listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.
Nurse Aide II equips students to perform more complex skills for patients or residents. Graduates are eligible to apply for listing as a Nursing Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
The Phlebotomy Technician course trains students to draw blood specimens from patients. It is designed to prepare them to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology’s National Phlebotomy Certification Examination.
